Meet Rugby :)

Sean and I have wanted to get a puppy and thought we would sometime next year.  Well, yesterday we decided to go look at puppies just for fun.  We’ve done this together over the last 6 years that we’ve been together, but something was different about yesterday.

We were just cruising around and immediate saw this little chocolate lab retriever bouncing around with his ears flopping.  Then he looked at us with his bright green eyes and Sean and I looked at each other and we were in love.  Once we took him into the private room to play, we knew he was meant for us.  Everyone, meet our newest addition, Rugby :)
He is just the cutest, uncoordinated, energetic, snuggly little puppy.  He loves his toys, loves running around in the backyard, follows us around the house, and snuggles on our laps when we’re watching a movie.  He is a 2 month old chocolate lab retriever and we couldn’t be happier with our new baby.  Tantalum, our kitty and now Rugby’s big brother, was at first skeptical like “What on earth did you guys bring home for me?!” But after a little bit of getting to know each other, Tantalum and Rugby were following each other around the house playing with Tantalum’s feather toys (yes, Rugby loves the cat toys!)  It was adorable.
I can’t wait to start taking Rugby on runs with me!  We can motivate each other to log a couple miles each day :)

**Update 8/2:  I just realized this is on my 30 before 30 list!

Wedding + birthday + tattoo!!

I have been completely neglecting this blog.  Despite my chaotic and super busy schedule, my new goal is to post at least once a week.  So it’s time to brush the dust off my little blog, and start writing again, beginning with two exciting updates!

First, last Friday my brother-in-law got married!!  It was a beautiful ceremony followed by a fun night of dinner and dancing.  One of the groomsmen even sang “All My Life” by K-Ci & JoJo at the end of the night!  I am honored to have been a part of their wedding day, and I couldn’t be happier for my bro-in-law and new Sis!  Here are some pictures from their big day:
Kathleen & Ryan's wedding!
Second, last Sunday was my Mom’s birthday.  We decided to make a celebration of it and celebrate the spectacular life my Mom lived by having the whole family over at my parents’ house for a BBQ.  One of my parents’ {and my} favorite things to do is sit on the patio on a summer day and drink a glass of French rosé while listening to music, laughing, and talking.  So dad marinated some chicken and ribs, my cousins brought a salad, fruit salad, corn fritters since Mom was from the south, potato salad, beans {all the BBQ fixins’} and we hung out in the backyard BBQ-ed drank wine and beer and laughed a ton.  It was the perfect day.  Mom was totally with us too!  Something spectacular happened…in the words of my Dad writing to my Mom:
So when getting ready for the family party yesterday, I turn on my itunes and put it on random shuffle...6000 songs. Alone waiting for guest arrivals, the very first song is The Pretenders "I Remember You"....brought me to my knees. A few minutes later, the Wades walk in with pictures from our Yosemite trip 15 years ago and Paul Simon Graceland comes. Every year the Wades drive to Yosemite they play this album. A bit later in the party, Emmy Lou Harris It's Midnight and I Got Two More Bottles of Wine, a fave by you. Winding down with Sam, Maggie and Sean, the evening ends with Janis playing, another fave by you. All this on "Random". You were clearly partying with us and controlling the set list and the exact right times. I was lucky enough to share 37 or your 56 birthdays with you....yesterday you would have been 57. I miss you, my love, and you'll always be in my heart.
It was incredible.  Mom was with us through our music :)
Mom's birthday BBQ - we love you always Mommy! :)
I also did something very special for myself that I had been planning to do on Mom’s birthday for months:  I got my first tattoo.  I always said the only reason I’d ever get a tattoo is if it was something sentimental to me and something I designed.  It’s a fleur de lis, which is a French symbol and my Mom loved France and everything French, and underneath is the word “Imagine” in my Mom’s handwriting.  I chose the word “imagine” because growing up she always told me and my brothers that if we imagine something we can do it…Imagine, Believe, Achieve was her slogan; and also because John Lennon’s song “Imagine” is one of my all-time favorite songs and was one of Mom’s as well.  Imagine seemed to be the perfect word for me and Mom.  When I told my Dad and brothers my design, my big brother had the idea to wait and do it on Mom’s birthday, which I whole-heartedly agreed with.  And so I did :)
With my husband, cousins, and little bro :)
Happy Sunday everyone!  I hope it's a fabulous one :)

Weddings + bday + triathlon training & more!

Gosh it has been a long time since I’ve blogged!  So many things have happened since my last post:

1.  One of my dearest friends in NY got married!

2.  My future Sis had her bachelorette weekend in Vegas!

3.  My husband is amazingly thoughtful and “kidnapped” me on my birthday!  He wanted to make it special since it was my 1st one without Mom, so he told me to take the day off of work because he had a day of adventure planned.  I woke up to a fuzzy pink tiara (I’ve worn a tiara on my birthday every year since I was 16, and of course when I was a kid, but yes, I do it now as an adult!), and two boxes from my favorite store (Nordstrom).  Inside one was the cutest pink and white silk romper, and in the other was a perfect pink purple and white silk dress!  I put on the romper, and he took me to Disneyland!!!  Despite having passes for years, I’ve never been to the happiest place on earth on my actual birthday.  We went early and rode every ride I wanted to, enjoyed corn dogs (Disneyland’s are the BEST!), and scoped out the new Cars Land over at CA Adventure.  THEN, he took me to see the movie Brave, which was so great!  Afterwards, we went home, cooked dinner together and sat on our patio all evening talking, laughing, and listening to music.  It was the best day ever!!  Then on Friday we celebrated with the rest of my family and went to an amazing dinner at Fuego on the water!  Thank you to everyone who made my 26th birthday so special!  And Mom, I know you were right there celebrating with us :)

4.  I started training for my 1st triathlon, and week one has been very successful!  The other day I was supposed to cycle 5 miles, but ended up going 20 miles (I was in the zone, what can I say :) ).  I’ve been cycling for most of my cardio, so this week I’m getting back into running and it’s been good!  Here is a recap of week 1 for my tri training:

For my birthday, my Dad gave me cycling shoes!  I tried them out on Wednesday and they are AMAZING!!  They totally take the pressure off the top of my foot where the strap would go over your sneakers.  I am so stoked to train with them!

5.  We celebrated the 4th of July with a BBQ and taking our Duffy boat out around the bay.  I’ve never seen the beaches so packed (people were squished like sardines)!

6.  Sean and I saw Cirque du Soleil’s “Iris”, a Journey through Cinema, with our best friends David and Lisa! The show was sensational!  It made me want to become a dancing acrobat contortionist!  Those guys and gals are talented!!

More great things to come!! :)
